This image shows above an axon and postsynaptic neuron (Lateral Interneurone) in the lamprey spinal cord. The image then zooms to the region of synaptic contact between these two neurones (the reticulospinal axon in blue and the postsynaptic interneurone in yellow) first in the same plane as shown in the whole cell image and then, below, rotated 90 degrees to view along the length of the axon. Finally, below this text a block of axon and attached dendritic spines are viewed at the maximum resolution of our microscope.
